The active ingredient in Wegovy injections is Semaglutide, which belong to a class of medications known as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists, typically used for people with type 2 diabetes. It is now licensed to be used to aid weight loss and weight management in those with a BMI of 30 or higher. While there can be side effects, some people are more at risk, the pharmacist consultation will determine whether you are suitable for the treatment or not. Obesity can lead to heart disease, high cholesterol, hypertension and more, so the benefits of Wegovy for some, may outweigh any less severe side effects.
